Train hits semi – fortunately, no injuries

Oct 11, 2017 | 9:11 PM

LETHBRIDGE –  Traffic congestion on west-bound Crowsnest Trail was compounded Wednesday evening after a train struck a semi at the 30th street rail crossing.

CP Rail crews had already spent the day replacing rails and rail beds across the highway just south of the 30th street intersection, which reduced traffic to one lane in both directions for the entire day, creating significant traffic backups on the trail.

Around 6:00-pm, a semi hauling cattle feed was struck by a train at the 30th street crossing, tipping the feed tanker on its side on the south side the tracks, which further reduced traffic flow. Several hours later, Lethbridge police, the fire department and CP crews were still on scene dealing with clean up and traffic.

Officers on-scene confirmed there were no injuries.
