OTTAWA –  The town of Coaldale is among 97-communities across Canada to receive federal funding for infrastructure initiatives.

A total of 103 projects have been approved for funding of just over $3.8 million. The money stems from two new programs: The Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP) and the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP). The programs are delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and funded by the Government of Canada.

— Mamp is a new five-year, $75-million program designed to encourage Canadian municipalities to better prepare for and adapt to climate change, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Thursday’s announcement includes just over $3.7 million in MCIP grants towards 28 projects in municipalities across Canada.

— The MCIP is a five-year, $50-million program designed to help Canadian municipalities strengthen infrastructure investment based on sound asset management. Thursday’s announcement includes 75 projects in municipalities across Canada.

The town of Coaldale is one of 13 Alberta communities to share $981,000 for 12 projects in the province. The community will receive a $50,000 grant from MAMP for an Asset Condition Assessment Program to assist with data collection and reporting.

Jenny Gerbasi, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) says the funding will help build a more livable and competitive Canada.

“Communities large and small are looking for ways to maximize their infrastructure dollars, plan for, and adapt to the impacts of climate change, and undertake programs that benefit the environment.”
