LETHBRIDGE – A wintry mix of weather surrounded the Lethbridge area Thursday, Nov. 16, bringing potentially hazardous driving conditions.

A snowfall warning was in effect for areas including Pincher Creek, Waterton Lakes National Park, Crowsnest Pass, Piikani and Blood Reserves, and the MD of Ranchland. Those areas can expect 10-20 cm of snow before the system moves out.

As of 6:30 a.m. Highway 3 from Coleman west to the B.C. boundary was listed as partly snow-covered, with poor visibility.

Meanwhile, freezing rain warnings were issued for areas north and east of the Lethbridge/Taber region. The affected areas include Vulcan, Milo, Lomond, Carmangay, Champion, Enchant, Scandia, Brooks, Bow Island, Seven Persons, Medicine Hat, and points east and north.

Freezing rain can cause ice to build up on surfaces including roads and sidewalks. The last update of road conditions indicated Highway 36 from Taber north to Scandia was partially ice-covered due to freezing rain.

Lethbridge’s forecast indicated a risk of early morning freezing rain, followed by an unspecified amount of snow.
