Hurricanes halt 4-game losing streak with 6-2 win in Regina

REGINA – After posting four straight losses, three of them on the current eastern road trip, the Hurricanes finished on a positive note before their Christmas break, defeating the Regina Pats.

Taylor Ross opened the scoring on a powerplay half way through the first frame, assisted by Jordy Bellerive and Calen Anderson.  Just four minutes later, Regina tied the game, which is where the score remained when the buzzer ended the period.

The next period favoured the Canes, although the first goal didn’t come until the 11:45 mark, off the stick of Jake Elmer, who charted his 12th of the season.

From that point, the team took advantage of a string of powerplays on Regina penalties. Two minutes after Elmer’s goal, Dylan Cozens found the back of the net, assisted by Taylor Ross and Jordy Bellerive.

After another two minutes of play, Ryan Bowen registered his first goal of the season and the game’s  insurance goal.  Two minutes before the end of the period, three minutes later Taylor Ross tallied his second goal of the game, and put the Canes ahead 5-1. Shots in the period favoured the Canes 15-5.

The Pats made a surge in the third, out-shooting he Canes 17-9.  Three minutes into the frame, Regina added their second goal.

The final goal of the game came at the 15 minute mark, off the stick off the stick of Giorgio Estephan, assisted by Calen Addison and Taylor Ross. 

The Hurricanes outshot the Pats 37-35 and nabbed all three stars of the game – First Star, Taylor Ross; Second Star, Jordy Bellerive; Third Star, Stuart Skinner.

The Canes go into the Christmas break with a 15-16-2-0 record and return to action on Dec. 27 in Medicine Hat.
