Canadian Blood Services issues urgent call for donors

Dec 20, 2017 | 10:53 AM

LETHBRIDGE – There are more than 450 appointments available in the Lethbridge area between now and Jan. 6 for anyone who is able to donate blood or platelets.

Canadian Blood Services has issued an urgent call for donors, not only locally-but nationwide-saying the holiday period always presents challenges to keep enough blood on hand to meet patients’ needs.

“We know that Canadians are busy with travel and activities over the holidays, and we hope that they will make time to save a life and give blood. Canadian patients’ lives depend on them,” says Rick Prinzen, Canadian Blood Services’ Chief Supply Chain Officer.

Platelets for cancer patients or those who have serious bleeding issues, are particularly difficult to get and keep, because they only have a seven day shelf life.

New and existing donors are welcome and walk-ins will also be accepted.
