LETHBRIDGE – A Raymond high school teacher accused of having inappropriate interactions with a student has been committed to stand trial.

The decision from Judge Derek Redman followed a preliminary hearing that concluded this week, to determine if there was enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.

Redman committed Jentry Jack Salmon on one count of sexual exploitation and a new charge of luring a child under the age of 18, which Crown prosecutor Dawn Janecke put forward. A second count of sexual exploitation was also dismissed.

Salmon’s case will now move to the Court of Queen’s Bench with his next appearance set for Feb. 12, at which time it’s anticipated a trial date will be set.

Salmon was charged on Feb. 17, 2017, following an investigation by Raymond RCMP.

In a media release from police, they say they were informed that a teacher was having inappropriate interactions via text messages and conduct outside the school environment with a Raymond High School student.

Salmon was suspended by the Westwind School Division in October of 2016, when they became aware of the allegations.

He is currently out on bail that includes a $1,000 no cash recognizance and conditions that he have no contact with the alleged victim or attend their place of employment or education.
