LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Hurricanes defeated the Kamloops Blazers 4–2 on Tuesday night (Jan. 16), running their winning streak to four straight games since the blockbuster trade with Swift Current one week ago.

The Hurricanes got things started early when Taylor Ross buried his 13th just a 1:23 into the first period to give Lethbridge a 1-0 lead.

From that point forward the Blazers poured it on, running their shot total up to 18 but couldn’t beat goaltender Logan Flodell.

Then at 17:45, Brad Morrison added to the Hurricanes lead making it 2-0 and that score would hold after a period of play.

Shots in the opening frame favoured Kamloops by an 18-8 margin.

The second period was closer in the shot department, and the Hurricanes would be the only team to score in the middle frame.

Zane Franklin, recently back in the lineup following an injury, buried his 12th of the season to give the ‘Canes a 3-0 lead at 12:36.

Lethbridge would take that 3-0 lead to the dressing room for the second intermission, and shots after two periods were 28-18 in favour of Kamloops.

Early in the third the Blazers would get on the board, when Jermaine Loewen scored to make it 3-1 Lethbridge just over a minute into the period. At 9:21, Loewen buried another goal, this time on the powerplay, cutting the Hurricanes lead to 3-2.

Kamloops pushed hard, but Logan Flodell shut the door and Zane Franklin potted an empty net goal to seal the game at 18:38.

With the win, the Hurricanes move to 21-19-3 on the season which has them four points ahead of the Kootenay Ice for 3rd place in the Central Division and seven points behind the Medicine Hat Tigers for 1st place.

Leading the way on Tuesday was the line of Bellerive-Morrison-Franklin, combining for eight points on the night.

The Hurricanes were heavily outshot, 39-28 overall, but Flodell made 37 saves in the victory running his record to 4-0 as a Hurricane and giving him a WHL leading 28 wins on the season.

Lethbridge will now take the two hour drive down the road to Kelowna, the site of their Wednesday night (Jan. 17) matchup against the Rockets. The two teams last played on Friday, Nov. 17, a 7-4 victory for Kelowna.
