PICTURE BUTTE – Charges have been laid against a 49-year-old man by the RCMP in Picture Butte following an investigation into allegations of sexual assaults that occurred 30 years ago.

According to police, they were contacted by a victim in September 2016 who reported when she was a child she had been sexually abused by a man known to her.

The RCMP began an investigation into the allegations, and three additional female victims came forward to report they had also suffered similar assaults.

All the offences in this investigation are alleged to have taken place in the 1980s and 1990s, and involve female victims who were known to the accused.

Marvin “Ross” Harker of Raymond, Alberta was arrested by investigators on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

He’s facing charges of Sexual Interference and has been released on a recognizance with conditions that include no contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Harker is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Feb. 7.

Sergeant Tom Howell, Detachment Commander with the Picture Butte RCMP, says while their investigation is now concluded, it’s possible other victims are out there.

“Anyone who has information about this investigation or other incidents should contact their local law enforcement agency,” Howell added.
