PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – After a 6-2 win in Prince George on Friday night, the Hurricanes entered the CN Centre arena again Saturday night with the Cougars in their sights. However, the big cats were looking to retaliate and struck first, at 3:27, as Jared Bethune took advantage of a power play to put his team on the scoreboard.

Just moments before the first goal, Canes goalie Logan Flodell was tapped for High Sticking, with the penalty served by Jordy Bellerive.

Shortly past the mid point of the first period, Keltie Jeri-Leon tied the game for the Canes with a backhand shot.  Then, less than a minute later, Jake Elmer notched his 14th goal of the season and put the Canes ahead 2-1.

The hard-fought period featured 22 minutes in penalties, including a five-minute major fighting timeout for Jordy Bellerive and the Cougars’ Aaron Boyd, when Bellerive dropped the gloves at 17:10.

The Cougars were again first to strike in the second frame and tied the score 2-2, which is where the score remained when the buzzer sounded on 40-minutes of action. The teams were evenly matched for shots-on-goal during the first two frames.

The teams managed to keep the penalties to a minimum in the final period and the Cougars were hungry for the win.  At 10:38, Max Kryski lobbed the puck through the pipes, to put PG ahead 3-2 and 15-seconds later, the Cougars had an insurance goal for a final score of 4-2.

The Canes are now 22-20-4-0 on the season and are in second place in the Central division. The team, with a game in hand, is five points ahead of the Kootenay Ice and five points behind Medicine Hat.  Their next and final game in their B.C. road trip is against the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook on Tuesday.
