Scheidegger looking ahead to national tournament

LETHBRIDGE – Casey Scheidegger says she and her teammates haven’t quite come down yet, after winning the provincial women’s curling championship.

“I still think about the shot that we made to win, and winning, and I still smile,” Scheidegger said in an interview, days after wrapping up the title at the provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Medicine Hat. Scheidegger defeated defending champion Shannon Kleibrink 7-6, with a steal in an extra end.

“Things didn’t look all that pretty to start off, but we managed to, on my last shot, squeak one of our rocks in for shot rock, and it was a pretty hard rock to remove, and that’s how we won the game,” Scheidegger explained. “It was probably one of the most exciting wins we’ve ever had.”

It’s Scheidegger’s first provincial title, in eight appearances at the event. She said she’s proud to share the victory with local fans.

“We’re always really happy when we can share a win like this with our community, so it’s been really nice to hear everybody send us messages and congratulate us, and to hear that they’re partaking in the celebration just as much as we are.”

Scheidegger’s team is in Camrose competing in the Canadian Open, the same Grand Slam event they won last year. Then it’s on to Penticton, B.C. for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Jan. 22-Feb. 4.
