Lethbridge City Council votes to set reserve bids for properties with outstanding taxes

Jan 24, 2018 | 1:09 PM

LETHBRIDGE – More than 30 properties, including homes, land and manufactured homes, are currently on a list to be auctioned off in early April at City Hall.

At Monday’s meeting, councillors voted unanimously to set the reserve bids for the properties, one of which is valued at more than $1.6 million dollars.

The properties on this year’s list have outstanding taxes from 2015 and prior, 2016 and 2017. Administrative staff noted that numerous attempts had been made in a variety of ways to contact each property owner.

Staff also noted that each year when the list is released, most of the properties on it will not end up at auction because owners either pay off their outstanding amounts, or take part in the Tax Arrears Payment Plan (TAPP).

However, if a property does end up on the list, the auction will take place at 11:00 a.m. April 5, 2018 in the Culver City Room at Lethbridge City Hall.

The 2018 appraisals were completed by City assessment staff.

Any property that isn’t sold that day, could become the property of the city.
