RED DEER – Sunday evening’s game produced more penalties than goals in Red Deer – 15-minutes in penalties for both teams.  However, the Hurricanes out-shot the Rebels 44-23 and posted their first OT win of the season, thanks to goals from Jordy Bellerive.

The first 20 minutes produced only penalties and ended scoreless.

The second period opened with penalties levied against both teams.  It wasn’t until mid period that the Rebels were first on the scoreboard, courtesy of a short-handed goal by Reese Johnson, assisted by Josh Tarzwell. The Canes continue lead shots-on-goal, 30-14.  However, the period ended with the Rebels ahead 1-0.

The final frame opened with another round of penalties, including a five-minute major for fighting against the Canes’ Matthew Stanley and the Rebels’ Chris Douglas.

Near the half way mark of the period Jordy Bellerive notched his 32-goal of the season and tied the game, assisted by Tate Olson and Ty Prefontaine. The tie remained when the buzzer closed out the period, sending the game into overtime.

Overtime was short-lived. Just shy of the three-minute mark, Jordy Bellerive lobbed his own rebound past Rebels goalie Ethan Anders for the game winner. The Hurricanes now have 52-points and are in second place in the Central division at 23-21-6-0.
