PENTICTION, B.C. – Casey Scheidegger and Team Alberta opened the championship pool at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts with a win and a loss Thursday, Feb. 1.

Scheidegger opened the day with an 8-4 win over Northern Ontario’s Tracy Fleury. Alberta took command in the fifth end by scoring three.

That was followed by Scheidegger’s second loss of the tournament, an 8-3 decision won by Nova Scotia’s Mary-Anne Arsenault. Arsenault, who won five national titles and two world championships as a member of Colleen Jones’ team, scored three in the eighth end to seal the win over Alberta.

Scheidegger is now in a three-way tie for second, at 7-2, with Arsenault and Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones. The wildcard team skipped by Kerri Einarson is in first at 8-1. Alberta will take on Manitoba in Friday’s afternoon draw, then Einarson in the evening draw.
