First appearance in historic sexual assault case results in adjournment
LETHBRIDGE – The lawyer for a 49-year-old Raymond facing sexual interference charges, has had the case adjourned to later this month as they await disclosure from the Crown.
The accused cannot be named as he was a youth when a number of the alleged offences occurred.
An agent appearing for the man and his lawyer, explained that once they receive disclosure – which includes all of the evidence gathered in the case – they will need time to review it and discuss the case with both the Crown prosecutor and their client. It was noted by the Crown that they just recently sent the disclosure out, and an adjournment was granted to Feb. 28.
According to Picture Butte RCMP, they were contacted by a victim in September of 2016 who reported that when she was a child she had been sexually abused by a man known to her. Through their investigation, police say three additional women came forward with allegations that they had suffered similar assaults.
