Police say around 3:20 p.m., a Ford Fusion was travelling southbound on Range Road 264 and crossed onto Highway 519 when it was broadsided by a west-bound semi truck.

RCMP from Fort MacLeod and Claresholm attended, along with local firefighters. The 20-year-old driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, while an 18-year-od passenger had to be extracted from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

Both occupants were from Lethbridge.

The driver of the semi truck suffered only minor injuries.

At the time of the collision, a winter storm was occurring and roads in the area were icy and snow covered.

An RCMP collision analyst was at the scene, and the exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.
