Lethbridge well represented at Alberta Winter Games in wrestling and archery

WOOD BUFFALO – On top of the successful speedskating athletes from Lethbridge at the Alberta Winter Games, competitors from archery and wrestling also had a solid showing. 

Lethbridge Amateur Wrestling sent nine athletes representing Zone 1 to the 2018 Alberta Winter Games in the Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and six wrestlers returned home with medals.

Overall Zone 1, which included wrestlers from Medicine Hat, finished 4th, which is an improvement from 7th in the 2016 AWG.

Lethbridge wrestlers who earned medals:

Brantley Saar – Gold

Mackenzie Midgley- Silver

John Winchester – Silver

Aimee Ellis-Toddington- Bronze

Angelina Ellis-Toddington – Bronze

Autumn Carter – Bronze

 

Medicine Hat wrestlers earned an additional 2 medals:

Aayden Callan – Bronze

Dylan Callan – Silver

It was an impressive performance for the local athletes, as in 2016 the team only returned from the games with two medals.

In Archery, Shelby Smith from Zone 1 won gold in the female compound cadet, while Joel Schmid earned a silver medal the in male cub compound and Gibson Lassard took home bronze in male cub compound as well.
