Mar 7, 2018 | 7:22 PM

MOOSE JAW – The Lethbridge Hurricanes four-game road trip ended on a sour note Wednesday, Mar. 7, as they were defeated 6-2 by the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Warriors got things started early, as Brandon Schuldhaus scored to give Moose Jaw a 1-0 lead just 37 seconds into the game.

It didn’t take long for the Warriors to add to their lead, when Jayden Halbgewachs buried his 62nd of the season past Hurricanes goaltender Logan Flodell to make it 2-0 at 4:07.

Unlike the previous night in Brandon, the Hurricanes managed to get themselves on the score sheet thanks to a Taylor Ross power play goal at 6:49 to cut the score to 2-1.

Just 11 seconds later, Justin Almeida got a short-handed tally which made it 3-1 to restore Moose Jaw’s two goal lead.

That’s how the first period ended, with the shots also favouring Moose Jaw at 19-12.

The second period started slowly, but just before the midway point of the period Dylan Cozens scored his 22nd goal of the season to cut the Warriors lead over the Hurricanes to 3-2.

But again, the momentum for the Hurricanes didn’t last long as the Moose Jaw power play came through again when Halbgewachs buried his second of the night to make it 4-2 for the Warriors.

When the buzzer sounded to end the second period, 4-2 remained the score while the Warriors shot advantage increased to 31-19.

Moose Jaw added another power play goal in the third period, courtesy of Brett Howden, before Halbgewachs completed a hat-trick to cement the 6-2 victory.

Shots on goal finished at 40-27 for Moose Jaw.

For the second straight night, the Hurricanes penalty kill struggled allowing three goals on six opportunities.

Lethbridge also scored a power play goal in this one, going one for four overall on the man advantage.

With the loss, the Hurricanes record is sitting at 32-28-6.

Lethbridge will now return home for a pair of games this weekend. First up is a showdown against the Red Deer Rebels, their likely first round opponents in the playoffs, on Friday, Mar. 9. Then on Saturday night, the Regina Pats visit the ENMAX Centre to take on the Hurricanes.
