Hurricanes close out regular season with 3-2 win over Tigers

MEDICINE HAT –  After eight consecutive losses, the Lethbridge Hurricanes finished off their regular season in Medicine Hat Saturday (Mar. 17) night, by beating the Tigers 3-2.

The Tigers’ Tyler Preziuso opened the scoring just seconds after puck drop to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. That’s where the score remained after 20 minutes of play, with the Tigers outshooting the Canes 11-7

The second frame opened the same as the first. Just over a minute in, Tyler Preziuso charted a short-handed goal, to give the Tigers at 2-0 lead.

The Canes joined the game just after the eight-minute mark, as Zachary Cox put his team on the board, assisted by Owen Blocker and Keltie Jeri-Leon.  It took another ten minutes of action before the Canes’ tied the score 2-2, as Jordy Bellerive notched his 46th of the season.

There was a change of pace as the third period got underway.  Just over a minute in, Logan Barlage put the Canes ahead 3-2, assisted by Egor Zudilov and Zane Franklin. That’s where the score remained at game end.

The Hurricanes were outshot 35-23 in the game, were 0/2 on the power play and close out the regular season with a record of 33-33-6-0.

Opening round playoff action for the Canes begins Friday, March 23rd at the ENMAX, as the team hosts the Red Deer Rebels in the first of a best-of-seven.
