Taber man taken to hospital for mental health assessment after bomb threat

TABER – Police cordoned off an area around 50 Ave and 52 St. just before 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon after they came across a man acting strangely.
 
Police say when they made contact with him, he told them he had a bomb in a bag that he was carrying.
 
Five police backup units were called and the area was sealed off to the public.
 
The man was taken into custody without incident and will undergo a mental health assessment at the local hospital. Police say the man did not have a bomb.
 
Police say there is no danger to the public and they are still investigating.
 
No names have been released and it’s unclear if he will face any charges.
