Blood Tribe man pleads guilty to child porn charges

LETHBRIDGE – A Blood Tribe man has admitted to charges of distributing, accessing, and possessing child pornography, as well as breaching release conditions.

Cody Wright entered the guilty pleas Thursday morning, March 29, with defence lawyer Robin McIntyre asking for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, which would include a risk assessment. The matter was then adjourned to June 1 for a sentencing hearing.

McIntyre noted that Wright has previously pleaded guilty to other similar offences and that all of the charges will be dealt with together.

Wright was arrested by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit, Blood Tribe Police, and the Lethbridge Police on Nov. 8, 2017, at a home on the Blood Reserve.

ICE also searched a Lethbridge home, where they seized a number of electronic devices for forensic analysis.

Through an investigation that started in October, ICE said an individual had been uploading child pornography to a social media account. It was noted that they were first tipped off about the activity by the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre.
