LETHBRIDGE – As with game 1 of the Eastern Conference Championship, former Canes’ players set out to put their stamp on game 2 and stymie their current Canes opponents. It didn’t take long.

Four minutes into the opening frame, Giorgio Estephan took advantage of a power play to put the Broncos on the scoreboard. The action didn’t end there, as less than a minute later, Estephan tipped the puck in again, and Swift current was up 2-0.

The Hurricanes let a couple power opportunities slip by and the period ended with the Broncos 2-0 lead.

While the first period belonged to Swift Current, the second was owned by the Hurricanes.

Just four minutes in, Jordy Bellerive tried to set-up the shot for Taylor Ross, but the puck got past former Canes’ goalie Stuart Skinner off the stick of Tanner Nagel, and the Hurricanes were on the board.

After more than ten minutes of back and forth action, Dylan Cozens beat Skinner on a penalty shot to tie the score.  Three minutes later, Jadon Joseph scored on an assist from Jake Elmer and Brad Morrison, putting the Canes ahead 3-2 as the second period ticked down.

The Canes’ lead didn’t last.  Midway through the final frame, Aleksi Heponiemi scored on the man advantage to tie the game 3-3, which is where the score remained at the end of 60 minutes and the two teams headed into extra time.

The Canes had a slight edge on shots-on-goal heading into overtime.  However, it was former Cane Giorgio Estephan who notched his third goal of the night and tapped in a point shot to give the Broncos a 4-3 win and put the team ahead in the series 2-0. Former Cane goalie, Stuart Skinner made 36-saves, while current Cane goalie Logan Flodell, made 28.

The series now moves to Lethbridge, with games three and four set for the Enmax on Tuesday and Wednesday.
