WASHINGTON - The American dairy industry is split on the question of Canada's supply-management system as national negotiators get set to hold their first session on agriculture Saturday in North American free trade talks.

LETHBRIDGE - The aroma is unmistakable.

Entering an older warehouse building, one can almost feel the alcohol. The air is thick with the smell of Canadian whisky: Black Velvet that's been aging for more than two decades.

Products made from corn are produced at the Lethbridge plant, while Taber makes chips from local potatoes, and Spitz Sunflower Seeds are produced at Bow Island.

Final list of 2016 designated Livestock Tax Deferral regions

OTTAWA -  Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has issued a final list of designated regions where livestock tax deferral has been authorized for 2016.  The deferral is being allowed because of  drought conditions in B-C, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
