Man charged in death of female employee in Quebec bar fire

SAINT-GABRIEL-DE-BRANDON, Que. — A 52-year-old man is scheduled to appear in a Joliette, Que., court on Tuesday morning in connection with a fatal weekend fire.

The body of a 22-year-old woman was discovered in the rubble of a fire at a restaurant-bar in Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon, about 90 kilometres north of Montreal.

When the body of employee Chloe Bellehumeur-Lemay was found, police believed she had died in the fire.

But provincial police say her body bore signs of violence and they now suspect the fire at Resto-bar 239 was lit to conceal a homicide.

An unidentified suspect was arrested Monday at his home in Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon.

He was to remain in custody pending his court appearance. There was no immediate information on the charges he faces.
