New Junior Football Club starting in Lethbridge

Oct 8, 2020 | 12:49 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– A new football club is being put together in Lethbridge, thanks to a group of local volunteers who’ve been hard at work to ensure football makes it to the grid-iron in the city.

The Lethbridge Junior Football Club will be part of the Canadian Junior Football League.

This league will be a part of the national amateur Canadian football league consisting of 18 teams currently playing in five provinces across Canada.

In order to be eligible for the league, players have to be 17 – 22 to participate in highly competitive post-high school football and recently the Saskatoon Hilltops welcomed the first-ever female athlete to compete in the CJFL.

Logistical discussions are underway after the club’s application with the Prairie Football Conference was received.

Support from the City of Lethbridge, and local MLA Nathan Neudorf, along with the Lethbridge Sport Council have made the league possible.

The club is set to start in the summer of 2022 and the team will be called the Lethbridge Vipers and will play on the U of L community stadium.
