LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Alberta Health Services have notified local school districts of added COVID-19 cases in their schools.

Holy Spirit Catholic School Division was informed of a case of COVID-19 at St. Teresa of Calcutta School. However, the school was assured the case was not the result of in-school transmission but, was contracted outside the school community.

All close contacts have been notified and are isolating as required by AHS.

As of Wednesday, the division has 10 active cases at four school sites (Ecole St. Mary, Catholic Central High School, St. Catherine School in Picture Butte, and St. Teresa of Calcutta School), requiring the isolation of roughly 190 staff and students.

Also, the Lethbridge School Division was notified of a sixth COVID case at Winston Churchill High School, which was placed on a Watch Status on October 30.

The Watch status is stipulated when a school has five or more cases where COVID-19 could have been acquired or transmitted in the school.

AHS has defined close contacts of the six cases within the school context. Those individuals have been contacted and are required to follow quarantine protocols.

For the time being, Winston Churchill will remain open. The school has a plan in place to deliver online education for those in quarantine.
