Dec 17, 2020 | 11:20 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge School Division has confirmed a case of COVID-19 at Lakeview Elementary School.

Close contacts of the one case will be notified by email and instructed to quarantine for at least 14 days. AHS Public Health has provided recommendations to the school about cleaning measures and other control measures to reduce the risk of further transmission.

“If you are not contacted, then your child is not a close contact and can attend school as usual following all public health guidelines,” stated a release from the division.

The division could not say whether the confirmed case affected a staff member or student.

Custodial staff at the school have been instructed to conduct enhanced cleaning. The additional cleaning will focus on areas where the individual was present, along with high-touch areas and surfaces throughout the school.

“The health and safety of our staff, students, and community is paramount. We know this news can be distressing and supports are available,” noted the release.

“Please rest assured we will continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services and the Medical Officer of Health in the South Zone to ensure we follow their ongoing recommendations.”

The school division said the school schedule will proceed as normal for Friday, December 18.
