COVID-19 outbreaks declared at LCI and Nicholas Sheran schools

Mar 30, 2021 | 1:40 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– The Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) and École Nicholas Sheran were both notified by Alberta Health Services (AHS) that they each have a COVID-19 outbreak after a fifth case was identified at both schools.

When an outbreak occurs, the Medical Officer of Health has to investigate the cause and cases now.

Public Health staff are investigating to determine who may have been exposed at the school of COVID-19 during their infectious period.

AHS still says the risk to the general population in the school of becoming infected because of these cases is still low.

Officials provided the following to parents of students at LCI and École Nicholas Sheran:

“AHS Public Health is responsible for contact tracing. Public Health and the school will work closely together to ensure timely and accurate contact tracing. Close contacts will be notified via email and instructed to quarantine for at least 14 days. Public Health also has provided recommendations to the school about cleaning measures and other control measures to reduce the risk of further transmission. If you are not contacted, your child is not a close contact and can attend school as usual, following all public health guidance.”

School will proceed as normal unless told otherwise.
