LETHBRIDGE, AB – Swimmers from the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns have been awarded some new hardware following a doping violation at the 2022 U SPORTS Swimming Championships.

Pronghorn Athletics and Recreation stated that a total of 11 medals in four men’s swimming events at the competition have been re-awarded due to a doping violation. The decision resulted in upgraded placing for the U of L men’s relay and one individual event.

The changes to medals and team standings were officially announced on August 3, 2022.

The 4×100 metre medley relay team, consisting of Apollo Hess, Parker Brown, Raine Arden and Chris Alexander was moved up from a silver medal finish to the top of the podium, earning a gold medal.

Meanwhile, in the 50-metre backstroke, Chris Alexander was moved up from fourth place to third, earning a bronze medal. That is his first individual national medal.

Pronghorn Athletics Director Neil Langevin said, “While we were already proud of the preparation and performance of Chris and the relay team, the upgraded medals are a nice reward for them.”

“We applaud the sport governing bodies who took the bold step in the quest to keep the competition fair for the swimmers,” Langevin stated.

He continued, “I imagine that these upgraded medals will help our athletes as they begin their preparations for the upcoming season.”

The revised results are available at the U SPORTS website.

This upcoming season, the Pronghorn swim program will host the Canada West Championships from November 25 to 27, 2022.
