Two Lethbridge celebrations to recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day

Sunday, June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day and the City of Lethbridge Library’s downtown branch is hosting a community celebration.

A welcoming ceremony at Noon will kick things off with a community feast and other activities to follow, including live entertainment from local Indigenous artists.

Craft vendors and food trucks will also be on site.

However, to accommodate the event, the 800-block of 5th Avenue South will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

A separate event is also planned for Fort Whoop-Up beginning at 10 a.m.

Included on the schedule are a Blackfoot hand games demonstration and participation, archery demonstration and history, hide tanning and Indigenous material culture, story-telling and Blackfoot language learning, and medicinal uses of wildflowers.

Wagon rides will also be offered from 11 a.am to 4 p.m.

Both above events are free.
