Another Petition Started To End Cardston Liquor Sale Prohibition

Jan 13, 2016 | 8:38 PM

LETHBRIDGE: Another petition is attempting to end the prohibition of liquor sales in Cardston.

The online bid argues the restriction against selling alcohol inhibits growth of Cardston’s economic infrastructure.

The proponent, who is from out of town, is looking to start a business in the area.

The posting at go-petition-dot-com claims a large population of residents in the Cardston area travel out of town to purchase alcohol and subsequently spends money at other grocery stores and restaurants.

It goes on to say “Our intention is not to start any fights, or show any disrespect for anyone’s political aspirations, or religious beliefs, but to simply ask the people of Cardston to listen to this “voice of reason”, and support the currently inhibited growth of Cardston’s economic infrastructure.”

As of the time this article was posted, the petition had only garnered one signature.

The proponent declined to give Country 95.5 a comment.

In 2014, Cardston residents voted overwhelmingly against lifting the ban.

Cardston has a predominant Mormon population.
