LETHBRIDGE: Despite economic concerns across Alberta, 2015 was a solid year for the local real-estate market.

For Lethbridge and district, 2,543 homes were sold in 2015, which was the best yearly sales figure since 2007, and up from 2,524 in 2014. The average sale price also climbed from $257,000 to $263,000, with the total sales in 2015 coming in at $707-million from $675-million in the previous year.

Cathy Maxwell with the Lethbridge and District Association of Realtors, noted that our numbers defy the provincial trend, and explained why, “We’re diversified in the industries that we have here, the agriculture, the schools, it’s an attractive place to buy and to sell real estate and it’s showing in the numbers. I know the province, in many of the centres, they’re not able to share this kind of a report, and we are very fortunate here.”

Maxwell added that the positive numbers should continue this year, “The mayor is really trying to diversify our economy even more, to get more manufacturing opportunities here, and that will just help our real estate market and the city in general.”
