Crown Looking for Progress in Taber Murder Case

Feb 2, 2016 | 12:38 PM

TABER: The Crown is asking the defence to make some progress, in a murder case dating back to last September.

On the morning of September 22, 2015, police responded to a complaint of a disturbance and a missing person at a rural home north of Taber, and discovered the body of 36-year old Silas Kiseyinewakup near the farm where he was employed.

As a result of the investigation, Stacey Charles Wahpistikwan was charged with second degree murder and offering an indignity to a body.

Tuesday morning in court the defence asked for an adjournment, and while the Crown consented, they noted that some steps need to be taken at the next date. The defence stated that Wahpistikwan is currently dealing with unrelated charges in northern Alberta that could impact his case, and pending that outcome they will be able to advance the local matter.
