LETHBRIDGE:  The Coaldale Granite Club has opened its doors for the 2016 Tim Hortons Alberta Senior Curling Championships.

16 men’s and women’s teams from across the province are battling for the Provincial titles during the five day tournament that culminates Sunday.

Host Committee Chair Travis Davies says they’ve been planning the even since last summer.

“In the last few months it was just a matter of making sure we had all the umpires situated. Then each sub-committee built up their volunteers. The Host Committee is very proud to show off the club, Coaldale and Southern Alberta in general.”

Davies says some of the 50 plus year olds have played at various levels.

“We have Ed Lukowich, who was big in the previous decades, 70s, 80s and 90s. He’s won numerous Briers and world championships. Also, Cathy King played in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts back in the 90s and early 2000s.”
