Lethbridge Company Hopes to Impress Celebrities at this Year’s Oscars

LETHBRIDGE:  A Lethbridge company is making its red-carpet debut during the 2016 Academy Awards.

Halo Headwear was founded by Lethbridge resident Merena Johnson and her husband in December 2014. They make headbands with fun prints and a functional design.

“As a mom with small children, I thought about having something that we could wear when we’re busy, running around after our kids, we don’t want to spend  as much time doing our hair necessarily. I wanted something that was practical and fun, that you can dress up or dress down,” said Johnson of the idea behind her product.

After being discovered on Facebook, Johnson was asked to showcase the product in an Academy Awards gifting suite. She says the organizers don’t let them know who will be there, but it could grab the attention of around 150 celebrities.

The suite takes place the day before the actual ceremony, and Johnson says they’re more than excited to be involved.

The company also employs women in Lethbridge and the surrounding area who want to work casually from home, and has teamed up with Compassion Canada’s Child Survival Program, donating 20% of its sales to the organization.

Halo Headwear is sold in the city at Urban Grocer, the University of Lethbridge Bookstore, Runner’s Soul, Matters of Design and Alpenland. You can also find them at “Halo Headwear: Wear Your Halo” on Facebook, or on the WEB  http://www.onehaloatatime.com
