Brandon Downs Hurricanes 5-2 and Moves into 3rd Place in WHL

LETHBRIDGE:   The Brandon Wheat Kings outscored Lethbridge 5-2 Friday night at the Enmax, giving the Hurricanes a fifth straight loss.

The home team lead 2-1 as the game moved into a scoreless second frame. Brayden Burke had the Canes first goal, assisted by Egor Babenko and Tyler Wong mid-way through the first, followed by a second goal from Egor Babenko, assisted by Arvin Atwal and Cory Millete.

Action turned in favour of the Wheaties in the third period as Brandon scored 4 goals, including an empty netted with 16 seconds remaining. Canes Goalie Jayden Sittler took had loss.

The Wheat Kings outscored the Hurricanes by a narrow margin of 26-24 and racked up seven penalties in the last two periods for high sticking, tripping and checking.

The Hurricanes fall to 40-20-1-1 on the season and give up first place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Brandon’s win means the team takes over first place in the east, and with 83 points, moves the Wheat Kings one point ahead of the Canes for third place the WHL Standings, right behind Victoria (88) and Kelowna (89).

On Saturday night, the Hurricanes are home to the Edmonton Oil Kings at 7:00.
