Federal Government Funding Canadian Cattlemen’s Association Projects

Mar 10, 2016 | 3:08 PM

OTTAWA -The federal government is providing the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association with over $4 million for three innovative projects.

Of that money, $2.6 million will go towards developing tools to provide packers, retail food services, and consumers with easy access to beef product information.

Just over $1 million will be used to work with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada scientists to enhance the quality of Canadian beef using Computer Vision Systems (CVS) measurements. The CVS will image beef carcasses to predict and measure the tenderness, dark cutting, lean yield, bruising, and fat colour of beef.

The remaining $380,000 will be used for a feasibility study into the use of satellite-based technology to track and measure forage and pasture production for cattle producers.
