Blood Tribe Police Pleased with Sentence for Drug Trafficker

Mar 11, 2016 | 1:16 PM

STANDOFF: Blood Tribe Police welcomed news of the sentence for 29-year old Kyle Mitchell Saddleback.

He entered guilty pleas to two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking Thursday, in relation to the fentanyl and cocaine trade in the community. Saddleback was given a three year sentence, but received credit for 205 days in pre-trial custody.

In a press release issued by Blood Tribe Police, they say it’s reassuring to have the courts acknowledge the severity of what the drug trade does to the community, and hand down a sentence that reflects that.

Saddleback was charged in May of 2015 with two other individuals, after police pulled over a truck that was reported to be involved in drug trafficking in Standoff. A search of the vehicle turned up various drugs.

In a move to push drug traffickers out of the community, the Blood Tribe Chief and Council banished Saddleback and four others in November. Should he, or any others, return to the Blood Reserve, they will be considered to be trespassing and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
