LETHBRIDGE:   The Lethbridge Hurricanes didn’t disappoint on Fan Appreciation night at the Enmax, turning in a 6-1 win against Red Deer.  The team went through their paces in front of a season topping crowd of 5192.

The Canes owned the ice from the start of the game with Cory Millette scoring the first goal on a power play at 6:29, assisted by Arvin Atwal.  A flurry of goals came in rapid succession.

Just over four minutes after Millette’s puck found the net, Ben Duperreault took his chance, assisted by Jordy Bellerive. Two minutes after that, Tyler Wong added another goal on a power play, assisted by Jordy Bellerive and Andrew Nielsen.

Red Deer’s Luke Philp managed his team’s only goal at 15:34, to have that followed two minutes later by a goal from Hurricane Kord Pankewicz, assisted by Ryley Lindgren.

The Canes led 4-1 at the end of the first, and by the second period, the home team was up 6-1, thanks to goals from Arvin Atwal and another from Tyler Wong.

The scoreless third period was heavy on penalties, with Red Deer’s Jake DeBrusk and Hurricane Kord Pankewicz each racking up two minutes for slashing and five minute majors for fighting. Pankewicz took down DeBrusk with just over two minutes left in the game.

The two teams were evenly matched in shots on goal with Lethbridge firing 35 to Red Dear’s 34. Canes goalie Stuart Skinner had the win.

The Canes claimed all three Stars for the game: 10 Tyler Wong, 2) Kord Pankewicz, 3) Ben Duperreault.

The Hurricanes and Rebels play each other again Saturday night in Red Deer and the Canes are home on Sunday to play the Edmonton Oil Kings.  Game time Sunday is 6:00-pm.
