Hurricanes Open 2016 Playoff Run with 6-3 Win over Regina

LETHBRIDGE:  The Lethbridge Hurricanes were first on the score sheet, in the first game of their best-of-seven against the Regina Pats. 

Cory Millette took advantage of a power play in the first two minutes of play. That goal was followed by another from Brayden Burke, at the 14 minute mark. Regina’s Adam Brooks was first on the tally sheet in the final 63 seconds of the first period, leaving the Canes ahead 2-1.  All three first periods goal came on power plays.

Second Period goals came in reverse order from the first frame, with Regina’s Austin Wagner and Connor Hobbs each adding a goal.  The final goal of the period came from Hurricane Carter Folk, which left the two teams tied at three goals apiece.

The third period belonged to the Hurricanes, who racked up three more goals while the Pats racked up penalties.

Brayden Burke lobbed his second goal of the night just 41 seconds into the third, with Cory Millette following with his second power play goal just over four minutes later. At the 15:20 mark, Kord Pankewicz took the score to 6-3 in favour of the Hurricanes on another power play. 

While the Canes were busy with goal scoring the Pats kept themselves busy with penalties – a total of 34 minutes for 13 infractions, 22 of those minutes were in the third period alone, including a ten minute misconduct.

The Hurricanes out-shot the Pats 37-29 and were 4 and 12 on the power play.

Game 2 of the Series goes Saturday night at the Enmax, before the series shifts to Regina.
