West Winds Gymnastics Club Receives Major Support from Province

LETHBRIDGE – The provincial government has taken some pressure off the West Winds Gymnastics Club.

Lethbridge West MLA Shannon Phillips handed over a cheque for $46,000 Wednesday morning.

“Certainly any time the government can support families having access to high quality recreation activities, that’s certainly something we’re very interested in doing, and doing more of,” explained Phillips. “That’s one of the reasons why we ensured that this funding remains stable, because it’s really important to support families, and to support the different activities that they do.”

The club moved into their new facility at 1014 3 Avenue North in September, with organization Treasurer Gabriele Graumann noting that money has been tight as a result.

“It is going to help a ton, because when we moved over here there was so much to do, we had to basically gut the building and rebuild everything. So this year is a big crunch because of all the money that we’ve spent, so it is just fantastic to have the cheque, then we’re not kind of day-to-day, worrying about funds,” stated Graumann.

The grant comes through the Community Facility Enhancement Program, which supports between 500 and 600 projects across Alberta every year.
