Cultures Come Together to Celebrate Diversity

Mar 30, 2016 | 1:31 PM

LETHBRIDGE –  The College is helping to celebrate diverse cultures.

“Bridging Cultures” is an annual celebration that showcases the different international food, music, dances and other exhibits that make up our community.

International Activities Assistant, John Pogorzelski, hopes this event can encourage more international students to enrol.

“I believe our international students are sitting around four-per cent of our total population. We’re looking to bump that number up a bit higher. So, events like this can certainly help to progress and get more international students here as it becomes a more welcoming and inclusive environment.”

Wednesday (March 30) afternoon’s activities included performances from the Kainai First Nations, Nepali singers, Lethbridge Taiko drummers as well as Columbian, Mexican, Metis and Ukrainian dancers.

Juno-nominated artist, Armond Duck Chief, also made an appearance.

Pogorzelski says the overall goal of “Bridging Cultures” is to make people of all cultures feel welcomed, while also giving them a platform to show off the unique aspects of their lifestyle.
