LETHBRIDGE:  The Stars Lottery announced the winners of its 3,200 prizes on Thursday morning.

While loot for the 22nd annual lottery was worth more than $5.6 Million, ticket sales netted $11.5 Million for the non-profit organization.

The Lottery’s 50-50 draw brought in a total of $3,100,000 alone, to be shared with the winner.

In late February, there had been concern from STARS officials that slow ticket sales due to the poor economy might mean the lottery would not sell out for the first time in its history. However, a plea to Albertans brought a flurry of sale activity and the lottery sold out just before its cut-off date.

Jamie Edmonson of Calgary won the STARS home in Lethbridge’s Legacy Ridge and the Sylvan Lake home goes to Peter and Olive Huvenaars of Taber, and Ed and Marlene Grinnell of Lethbridge won the Edmonton Show home, worth $975,000.

One third of STARS’ operating budget is funded by lottery revenue which netted more than $11 Million in 2015.

In 2014-15, STARS flew 1,839 missions, carrying critically ill or injured patients from bases in Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie. Over the past 30 years, the STARS teams have flown over 30,000 missions.

A full list of all the winners will be on the STARS website on Monday.
