May 26, 2016 | 5:14 PM

LETHBRIDGE – The city is about to gain a space that celebrates the community’s diversity.

The Multicultural Centre, at 421 – 6 Avenue South, will be a large community space for all to enjoy.

It features a large hall which can accomodate up to 200 people, a commercial kitchen, conference rooms, three office spaces and much more. (Pictures to the right)

“We have a facility that all 30 to 35 ethno-cultural groups work out of. This is very unique in that sense. That is the reason why I give a lot of credit to our civic leaders and the provincial government for funding something like this,” noted Surya Acharya, President of the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association.

“Everybody should be very proud of this, and we will make everyone even prouder by making it into what we think it should become.”

Spaces will be rented on a first-come, first-served basis, with Association members having top priority. The three office spaces will be rented out at some point, with their non-profit, non-religious mandate in mind.

Acharya added that the Association is also looking for an official sponsor to name the building after.

A grand opening celebration takes place Saturday, May 28 from 11am to 3pm with tours of the new facility, performances, international food and fun kids activities.
