LETHBRIDGE:  Both Lethbridge College volleyball teams will have new faces on the sidelines this season as Greg Gibos and Anna Schwark have been named head coaches of the men’s and women’s clubs, respectively.

Both Gibos and Schwark are southern Alberta products, and are familiar with the local volleyball scene. While each brings a lengthy resume, this will be the first time for both to work as head coaches at the college level.

“We are excited to add two extremely skilled, driven and enthusiastic coaches to the Kodiaks program,” says Todd Caughlin, manager of Athletics. “We believe both Anna and Greg will be able to elevate the level of our volleyball teams both on and off the court, and provide a first-class environment which will allow our student-athletes to excel.”

Gibos takes over the Kodiaks men’s program after spending the past three seasons as head coach of the LCI Clippers girls’ team, where he was twice named Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League coach of the year. A native of the Crowsnest Pass, Gibos has also coached at the high school level with Lethbridge’s Chinook High School and Edmonton’s W.P. Wagner. He has worked extensively with the Lethbridge Volleyball Club as a head coach at various levels, and in 2013 was an assistant coach for Alberta’s under-17 boys’ provincial team.

“I am extremely excited and proud to be joining the Kodiaks family,” says Gibos. “I am thrilled to be working with such a dedicated group of athletes and athletic staff. I can’t wait to see how our program can impact the community and inspire youth to love the game of volleyball.”

Schwark is no stranger to the Kodiaks program. A native of Coaldale, she has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Kodiaks women’s team, and played one season with the club in 2013-14. A graduate of Catholic Central High School in Lethbridge, Schwark played two seasons of NCAA Division II volleyball with Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina. Her playing experience also includes time with the WHAM Volleyball Club in Taber and Lethbridge’s Sport Science Institute Volleyball Club.

“I am thrilled to take over as head coach of the Kodiaks,” says Schwark. “I have seen the talents and passion this team holds and I believe we can do some big things together. I’m eager to help the athletics team at Lethbridge College continue to build the ‘Kodiaks Culture’ and I am proud to be able to do so as a female coach at the college.”

Schwark and Gibos will make their ACAC debuts as the Kodiaks open the 2016-17 season on October 14th against Briercrest College.
