Successful Prescription Drug Pick Up Day

May 29, 2016 | 9:17 AM

LETHBRIDGE – Prescription Drug Drop off Day has been called a huge success by organizers across the country.

Over the past week, Blood Tribe Police Service and the Blood Tribe Prescription Drug Project teamed up to help local residents safely dispose of unused and unwanted medications.

Approximately 10,000 prescription pills such as opiates, amphetamines and barbiturates were collected.

The blood tribe police called the project an important step in dealing with the serious problems associated with prescription drug abuse.

Residents can drop off any unused or expired prescription medications at their local pharmacies to ensure a safe and environmentally responsible disposal.

Residents are also reminded to refrain from flushing any medications down the toilet or wash them down the drains, as to keep water sources free from prescription medications.
