LETHBRIDGE – There are more than a dozen activities planned for Lethbridge’s 2016 Environment week, June 4 – 11.

Shannon Phillips, MLA Lethbridge West and Alberta’s Environment Minister visited the Helen Schuler Nature Centre Friday afternoon to discuss the importance of community based green activities.

Phillips said she is very pleased to see a plethora of events for all ages focused on education.

“With this level of community organization, it really shows that people in Lethbridge really want to do the right thing. People are willing to give their volunteer time to organize a whole week of events and model the change that they want to see,” she said.

Phillips touched on the NDP’s plans to discuss how money will be reinvested from the carbon levy by means of a community panel to be announced and launched next week that will travel throughout Alberta discussing green investments.

We will be going around to communities asking people what they want and making sure our investments are the least amount of dollars for the most amount of impact,” Phillips said.

Environment Week has been celebrated in Alberta since 1972.
