Jun 14, 2016 | 11:06 AM

LETHBRIDGE / WARNER – There’s still time for girls and young women to register for Warner Hockey School Identification Camp.

The weekend training camp runs Friday through Sunday (June 17 – 19) and takes female hockey players from grade seven to 11 who are looking to showcase and upgrade their skills.

Participants will receive dry-land training, stick handling, fitness testing, a goalie ice session and more.

Bruce Bell, Warner Hockey School Head Coach and former NHL player, says the school enjoys a 98 per-cent success rate with players going on to play post-secondary hockey.

“We want committed girls that want to make a career out of hockey player. If we have the girls for a few years it is our job to find them post-secondary scholarships. A lot of the schools like the format that we provide with regards to the academics and hockey playing. They are already attune with the regiment throughout the eight months of school. That’s what we prepare them for.”

Bell said that he has heard the question “why is professional female hockey lagging,” at a few conventions across the country and said that the Warner Hockey School strives to train successful hockey players.

“I think that as far as development and skill level goes, those little things that need to be polished is somewhat lost during younger years in minor hockey training. There is obviously good camps, but there is a lot of repetition.”

Registration is open until Friday (June 17TH) afternoon.
