Galt Enters Agreement with the City for Fort Whoop Up Operations

LETHBRIDGE – Council made it official on Monday, that the Galt Museum and Archive will assume operation of Fort Whoop Up.

During Fall 2015, City Administration issued a Request for Proposal for a new operator. The Galt was announced as the successful proponent on February 18, 2016, and Administratrion has been in negotiations since then.

The museum has been approved for operations over the next three years, subject to a positive performance review.

The City has also approved the following for Program services, which will be forwarded to the Galt Operating Budget:

January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 = $191,300.00 Total

January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 = $194,900.00 Total

January 1, 2018 to December 31 2018 = $ 198,600.00 Total
 

Bary Beck, Director of Community Services, says those funds will most likely be used to hire some temporary staff and volunteers for this summer.

The Recreation and Culture Department will be working with The Galt, to ensure the level of service and operational agreement are being followed properly.

A grand re-opening is expected to take place June 27.
