LETHBRIDGE – HomeBASE Services operating in the Centralized Intakes and Refferals building along the 300 block of Stafford Drive South, have suspended services until further notice, due to an incident wherein a truck crashed into the building Thursday afternoon (June 16).

The not-for-profit,is a service agency operated by the Canadian Mental Health Association, Lethbridge Region.

The Diversion Outreach Team (D.O.T.) will continue to operate without interruption and can be reached at 403 892 3707.

Police reported that just before 3 p.m. on Thrusday the driver of the truck involved in the collision suffered medical distress prior to the collision.

Captain Bonnie James with the Lethbridge Fire Department noted that the driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and that no one inside the building was harmed.

When asked how long clean-up could take, James explained that they’re waiting on a structural engineer to examine the building.

“It depends what the engineer tells us, especially with the old buildings and the bricks, we’re just not sure as to what’s going to transpire when we try to remove things,” James stated. “So the area will be fenced off this evening and then it will be up to the restoration company and the engineer as to when we can start cleaning stuff up and get things opened back up again.”

She added that the building owner will be responsible for bringing in a structural engineer, as it’s a private building.
