LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club is gearing up for the 2016-2017 season, that will also mark the club’s 30th anniversary of the franchise in Lethbridge.

The team was relocated from Calgary for the 1987-1988 WHL season.

The Canes kick off on September 23 when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers, the same team that the Hurricanes played their first ever game against in 1987.

Fans can show their support by using the special hashtag, #30YearsStrong throughout the season.

In addition, Terry Huisman, General Manager of Business Operations, said that the team’s jerseys will also receive a facelift.

“We have a new jersey that is going to be introduced to the fans. We’ve redesigned the look of the jersey, however the logo will remain the same. We will also have a commemorative patch added on to it for the anniversary recognition,” he said.

As well, the Hurricanes will be conducting a number of exciting and interactive celebratory initiatives for the season, including 30 Days of Giveaways and Top 30 Moments to be revealed 30 days before the home opener and the Top 30 Players from the 30 years of existence, to be announced later in the season.

This month the Hurricanes will play a Golf Classic hosted by Canes alumni, at Paradise Canyon Golf Resort on Monday, July 18.
